How to Use IRC :: Part 2

STEP 2: SETTING UP IRC

NOTE: The following directions are written for mIRC and Sysreset. It is suggested that you download one of those two programs. (CLICK on images for larger version)

Once you have installed mIRC or Sysreset, open up the program.

Connecting:
1) A window should pop-up and ask you for information. If not, press ALT+O. The window will ask you for the following information:
        Full Name: This does not have to be real, but must be filled in.
        E-mail Address: This should be real.
        Nickname: This is the name that you will be known by in the channels ("chat rooms"). It must be 30 characters or less.
        Alternative: This is a back-up Nickname incase the one you chose is already taken.

Select Server 2) Now click "OK"
3) Go to "File," "Select Server." Under the "IRC Server" menu, select a server, such as "IRChighway: Random server."
4) Click "Connect to Server"
5) If you are using mIRC, a window that says "mIRC Favorites" will pop-up, close that for now.

Setting Preferences:
Disable Ignore 1) Click: "Tools," "Options," press the "+" next to "DCC." Select "Ignore" from the left menu. Under "Method" select "Disabled" from the drop down menu. This will allow you to download any file you choose.
2) Now, in that same "Options" window, select "Folders" from the left-hand menu. Here you can change the default folder into which files are saved. The default is "C:\Program Files\mIRC\download\". If you want to change the folder, click the "Edit" button. Then click the button which displays the current folder location and choose a new folder.
3) When you are done, press "OK".
